Can Solar and Batteries Help Your Arizona Business Control Energy Costs?
For Arizona business owners, electricity is both an operating expense and a requirement for growth. Commercial solar, battery storage and load management can help address parts of that challenge—but the right approach starts with your facility’s actual utility tariff, usage and power needs.
Look beyond total kilowatt-hours
Your bill may include energy charges, demand charges and other fees. Review 12 months of APS, SRP or TEP bills and interval usage data, when available. A facility with short demand spikes needs a different strategy from one that uses power steadily through the evening.
Match solar production to your operating schedule
Onsite solar can offset some electricity purchased from the utility. Its value depends on when your business uses power, available roof or carport space, equipment condition, export compensation and project costs. It does not eliminate every utility charge.
Give a battery a defined job
A properly sized and controlled battery may reduce measured demand peaks, move energy use away from more expensive hours or help use more onsite solar. Savings depend on the tariff, load profile, battery capacity, controls, losses and operating costs. Start with facility-specific modeling rather than a promised savings percentage.
Separate backup needs from bill savings
Backup requires equipment and controls designed for operation during an outage. Identify the loads that matter most—such as refrigeration, communications or selected production equipment—and the runtime needed. A system designed only for bill management may not provide outage backup.
Evaluate power readiness before expansion
New machinery, refrigeration or fleet charging can require utility capacity and service upgrades. Solar and storage may support a broader plan, but they do not automatically replace utility approval, transformers, switchgear or engineering. Confirm capacity, permitting and interconnection requirements before committing to a schedule.
